  1. read les mis, but read the abridged addition. i read the full one and its the greatest thing i've ever read by a pretty good margin, but its also a billion pages long and there is tons and tons of really boring historical detail that you don't need at all that the abridged cuts out. also, catch 22 is probably the cleverest book ever written if you're into cleverness. which i am and which you may or may not be.
